Hello everyone, new to the forum and new to boating.
Just bought a 1995 For Winns with a 5L Cobra / OMC .
I cant seem to be able to find the exact Outboard model. Can anyone help.
The FourWinns Site is unclear.

Thanks
George

I don't know where the tag was on the Cobras (never had one), but you should find a tag on the engine somewhere with a number like "502APHUB 1995" stamped on it. That will be your model number.

Also it's not an outboard, it's an outdrive or sterndrive. Technical point, but might save you some confusion later on.

:welcome:

You'll find the info on the starboard side of the engine on the vertical plastic cover for the electronics.

Scratch my above comment. The engine part number is just forward of the flame arrester and above the oil fill cap. See pic below.

You won't find anything on the F/W site about mechanicals because all they do is build the boat and then install the engine/drive package from Merc or Volvo. To find correct parts etc you need to use that model number, it will usually start with a 50 (for 5.0 liter displacement engine), and in the string of letters & numbers there will be a G (GM/Chevrolet engine) or F (Ford engine) to add to the confusion they used both GM and Ford engines both of 5.0 liter displacement (Ford 302 cu in, GM 305 cu in). To make it easy the GM engine has the distributor in the rear and the Ford in the front. GM is easier to get parts for.
go over to:
www.crowleymarine.com
and look in OMC parts, start with year, then engine, then model number it shows parts diagrams. If you find a lot of parts listed as not available by OMC, keep in mind that Volvo Penta and OMC were in a joint venture at this time and if you look up the same year Volvo it will have all the same parts, many parts numbers are the same.

Here is how to decode the engine model #:

Looks like that applied to the pre-joint venture years. The '95 is a little different. My engine is a '95 OMC/Volvo joint venture Ford 5.0 multi-port fuel injected engine with the designation in my signature.

Take a picture of the drive and the engine so we can see if its a joint venture drive or not. That will be enough info to at least get you in the ball park. If its a joint venture drive, you can use the Volvo model number to buy parts.
