I recently bought a used boat with the motor mentioned in the subject. It ran well the first couple of times out. Recently, the motor started not idling well. Upon further inspection I noticed that one of the vacuum (?) lines coming off of what looks like a diaphram on the top of the engine is not connected to anything. There is also a red switch that has a valve that looks like what you see on a tire valve stem in the middle of it. The switch rotates from 0 - 90 degrees. What position should it be in and where does this vacuum line go? If any of you have this model of motor (1995 175 V6 either Johnson or Evinrude) please reply.

Thank you,
George K. George,

The red flip-switch is on the primer solenoid. Mine is in "normal" position when the red handle points in towards the carbs. I use the valve fitting to fog the engine prior to winter storage. Attach can of fogging oil to the fitting with the hose that comes with the can. The can of oil is pressurized. Open the red switch, and the oil gets pumped into the fuel flow for distribution through the idling engine.

Is the vacuum line attached to the primer solenoid (with the red switch), or somewhere else?

It is not attached to the solenoid, but it is attached to a device which is separate and mounted above the solenoid.

Thanks...

There is one hose that comes from what looks like fuel pump for a 15 hp engine that goes to the air silencer, no nipple , just kinda lays in the silencer.

thanks a lot...Is there also a hose that connects to a nipple in the bottom of the air silencer. I found a hose that was not connected that had a hard plastic nipple broken off inside of it and the air silencer looks like it may of had a nipple broken off of it.
