1995 Johnson 30 hp. New prop? Hard to change? Which one?

So I have a 1995 Johnson 30 hp outboard. It's a great motor, 2 stroke. But definitely has a dinged up prop that is likely original. When I searched on iBoats for a new prop (they're on sale now) it brought up TONS.

I just want a good prop that gives me the best overall performance for a good price. No idea what pitch, or anything like that means.

Are they hard to change/ replace?

Thanks

Need to test current prop on a wot spin while lightly loaded, then will know if OB works inside MIN-MAX safe RPM range factory stated for that HP. Once you know can go from there buying same new one or maximizing a less pitch to pull revs up. For that will need to intall an induction tach to check WOT revs out..

My opinion is that the manufactures equip the motors with optimal prop for speed and power.

Wrong... if you're pleased with its performance stay where you are. Generally speaking factory props delivered with OB are usually medium pitched, once break in period is ended should aim por a pitch that achieves near or full WOT revs for that OB on that boat, which assume you don't know..

Your prop size may be near the base of the blades out under the prop nut.
The "right prop"would depend on the boat, typical load and activities.
The motor needs to be able to rev freely within its rated rpm,5200-5800.
It may be cost effective to have the prop repaired.
Do a lightly loaded wot test run, remind us of the prop size, get us the rpm and gps speed.
If the motor rpm is too far from ideal it could result in premature repair problems.

IF OP doen't want to install a tach, won't know how much boating fun he's missing. On the last 4 OB's installed on different applications, all needed at least going down 1-2 sizes to be around max wot rpm for that given boat model, weight and current use. If he's running a underpowerd OB for his application and current load, say family oriented, pulling infllatables, much worst for OB..
