Ok so i bought this motor off good ole craigslist and pretty sure its looking like i got burned for what i paid. lol
So here are the issues, get to the boat launch and back the boat in, go to start it and it cranks over a few times than the starter kicks out (starter is newer, i also took apart inspected and looks good), after a few attempts where it only cranks a second and kicks out it will let out a backfire or chuff, not exactly sure but think its back through the carb. once it gets started it runs ok, than will start to miss a little puff of blue smoke (oil injection removed) clears up and runs smooth. than out of no where will die. will restart and do the same thing.
pulled the plugs #2 appears to be running lean.
while running i backed the idle screw all the way out and stalled the motor on the number 1 cylinder. proceeded to attempt this on the second carb and the screw was out almost all the way before i screwed it back in so i wouldn't loose it and it never affected idle.
compression tested:
1-130
2-127
3-130
4-125
i have ultra sonic cleaned the carbs, and sprayed all the passages with carb cleaner before this trip out.
All 4 coils have been replaced
all new spark plugs
new fuel pump diaphragm kit
New OEM primer ball
Serial number 0G198162
any advice is greatly appreciated, was thinking reeds, but have looked at them from the carb mounting spots and all are intact, not sure if they are "weak".
Thanks
Rob
