Hi All,
I couldn't take it anymore and took my boat out in the bone chilling waters! I was dodging Ice chunks, but it was worth it! The problem is this. I cruised about a mile just above idle speed. (trolling speed) All of a sudden the motor cut off. I thought I ran out of gas. When it kicked over again it blew some pretty good smoke before it was running smoothly again. Then while waiting on the trailer, it was sputtering some more. Kinda like back firing but it wasn't. I have a feeling it's something simple but and ideas before the season really starts? Thank you in advance!
Smitty

Just a guess... Was your boat winterized? and if so did you have extra oil in the engine when you stored it? If so it might just be burning out that oil. Is your gas old? Did you add a fuel additive to it to keep it stable for storage?

Hope it is no big deal....

It was not winterized. It spent the winter in a heated marina. I forgot to mention that I ran the motor for about an hour before this happened at all different speeds. It was when I was idle speed for about 15-min or so???

Smitty
