1995 Mercury 25 Horse s/n: 0G250071 Motor runs and idles fine. (is hard starting from cold) recently running full throttle and suddenly heard RPM drop a bit. Fished a while and when restarted and put in gear falls flat on its face. Runs and idles fine just will not power up in drive. cleaned plugs, cleaned fuel filter, ran carb cleaner thru it but no change. I am assuming it is fuel? possibly fuel pump diaphram? Anyone Familiar with this? Please help.

Testing needs to be done.-------Compression first.----Then check for spark on both leads.-----When was water pump worked on last ?

Compression is fine. The motor starts and runs fine. Revs up fine as well. Water pump is fine. Plenty of water flow out of pee hole. Both plugs are firing although I did consider an issue with spark under a load. Trying to prevent buying parts on a guess. But I guess the fuel pump diaphragm would be a good guess and not all that expensive.

Carb cleaner won’t dissolve a chunk of dirt or sand.
