hi, I’m having problems with my 96 Mercury 25 hp outboard, this is really the first time trying it this year but as soon as I put the pontoon in the lake it would not start. The starter would not engage, just heard the familiar click from the solenoid. I tested power to the solenoid to be safe and it looks good, then I tested power out of the solenoid(yellow wire) and I have power there as well when the key is turned. I then thought I would pull start it but low and behold, no spark. Could these issues be related somehow?
Thanks

The first time starting your motor this year, our boating season is almost over here at latitude 48, when was the last time you ran the motor?
Did you have the batterys fully charged up?The solenoid clicks when the battery is dead or not fully charged, you can get a load tester at Hf to tests your batterys at the start and end of boating, make sure the batterys are full of distilled water.first.
Everything on an outboard is related, all the parts have to work for a outboard to run and you need a clean fuel system/carbs. too.
How do you know you dont have spark? For sure?
The point, charge the batterys, clean the carbs like all the you tube videos, pump out the old gas ,get fresh gas mixed with stabil 360 marine with vapor technolgy,

The ignition system does NOT use 12 volts from the battery to generate the spark.

That is what I thought as well. In fact last year I didn’t have a battery with me when I first started it, I pulled it and it took right off. In the instance when I pull one of the plugs, ground it out again the case And pull start it, i see no spark. Just odd that the battery is not turning it over and seems like I’m getting no spark...

Make sure all your electrical connections are clean. Make sure all the safety switches are in the run position.
