1995 Merury 40 hp. Carbs leaking..Help

Is it possible that if you prime the ball from the gas tank to the engine too much the carb bowls might leak? Should you be able to prime it as much as you want without them leaking? Just had them rebuilt and it is extremly hard to start. Once started seems to run rough.

Went fishing the other day and the wind was very strong. Pushing me towards the pilons. Went to start the motor and it wouldnt start...Had to use an oar to push of the pilon. Little scary.

Whoever rebuilt the carbs didn't set the float level properly or didn't ensure the inlet needle and seat are working properly. But you only need to squeeze the primer bulb until it gets firm and even if you pumped it pretty hard the carbs should not leak fuel. That is why the engine is hard to start. Get your money back or make whoever did the job do it over and do it right.

A little scary?Your mechanic is a little scary,or did you do it yourself?I'm about to rebuild my carbs.Pretty easy if you read your manual.Gets tricky when you reinstall ie link sync,adjust floats,timing etc.But it's all in the book.My mech wants $500 for rebuild.

It was a mechanic. Ive never done it before. Have a manual but it looked a little SCARY to me...LOL So I paid to have it done so I thought. Called him about it and he told me to bring it back but has 6 boats to fix in front of mine. You would think he would squeeze me in right away since he screwed them up. Think its time for a new mechanic.

I bet the 6 jobs in front of you are squeezed in screw ups as well...lol.Makes you wonder how they keep getting work.Obviously a shortage of talent out there.Rule of thumb..go for the older guy,they seem to have more pride in there work.good luck.
