1995 OIS Timing Wheel removal

I have a 1995 150 Ocean runner with the OIS system. My issue is not with the running of the engine, it's the starting. The starter sometimes makes a screeching noise as it's cranking. The starter/Bendix are two separate parts and to get to the Bendix I need to remove the flywheel cover. I've removed the timing wheel bolt but the brass sleeve is somewhat frozen to the crank shaft.

As the Timing wheel is plastic I really cant pull too hard.. What do i do to remove it? There seems to be nothing to pry against.

Those normally just pull off. Put the bolt back in half wy and lightly tap on it as you lift on the timer.

The bendix assy is "clutched" and my 1995 175 opro started slipping and screaming two yrs ago. It took a little "workin'" with Kroil since the exposed parts were pretty oxidized. A few gentle taps while lifting with a small drift worked for me.

I know this post is old but the tapping and gently pulling tip worked. Greased up the bendix and it works like a charm.

Same problem with a 2000 V4 Carborated 60 degree Johnson. It has the timing wheel on top of the flywheel. It too is a brass sleeve on the crank with a black plastic housing. There is no place to pry at all without prying on the soft plastic which flexes. I tried the bolt in and prying up as much as possible without it breaking while lightly tapping the bolt in the crank but still no joy. In fact from prying there is a slight crack now on the side of the timing wheel. It will not affect the operation of it but I am at a loss of how to pull it off without destroying it and then who knows if I can buy another! It's soaking in penetrating oil at the moment but some ideas from others would be wonderful!

I had to break mine to get it off, it looked as if someone had used a locking compound on it , the new one just slipped on no problem but the old one was locked on hard.

I've tried soaking in wd-40, and I've tried putting it in gear and using a block of wood on the prop to lock that and hopefully turn off the bolt - no luck. When I turn the bolt, the timing wheel turns along with everything else down to the prop (if in gear). Any ideas on how to get this bolt off???
