I have a 1995 Yam 175 with about 750 hours, has good compression, used exclusively in saltwater.

On 21' Cuddy. Used for offshore fishing so its run for hours at 3700-4400 then trolled for hours.

If properly maintained how many hours can be expected before requiring a rebuild? I know there's no absolute answer to this one.

usually block corrosion will take it out long before anything else if its properly maintained. I have some out there that were sold new in the 80's and still run a few hundred hours a year.

Rodbolt,

Thanks for the reply.

So at about how many hours would block corrosion likely be an issue. I guess I'm really looking for rough numbers. Does the average mid 90's 2-stroke last 1000 hours, 2000, 5000?

I don't think engine hours is an indicator for corsion as the salt damage is done after the motor is out of the water and not flushed, if it is permanently moored, then engine hours could be nearly nothing and the motor is still coroded

Boat is launched run for the day then back on the trailer. Always flushed within an hour of being pulled.

does not matter to corrosion. I have seen some go for years with only a flush once a year or so(mine) and others that go away in 5 years. I dont have a trailer so mine only comes up once or twice a year.
so do all the maint on the fuel and cooling system and pray the corrosion gods smile on ya.
