1995 yamaha 15hp 2stroke

Does anyone know what the cc's on a 1995 15hp yamaha 2stroke are as i just bought one in mint gem condition for $800 with less then 20hrs on it and it sat in storage for over 10yrs with no use and the owner cleaned the carb and the water pump is working great so if there is anything i need to know about this motor can someone help thanks..I know that the newer ones are around 246 cc's but would it be the same for that yr?Also has anyone had any major problems with this motor i need to know about?

I know most yamaha's are bulletproof if u take care of them.The rpm max is 5500 rpm so what prop would give me the best hole shot and top speed in a 1436 lowe boat.They had the motor on a 15ft boston whaler and with 2 people they hit 19mph which is great considering my boat is probally 300lbs lighter so i should see mid 20's if not better with the right prop.Ok thanks for any help

My book says 15 cubic inches on that motor. Sounds like a very nice motor for $800. Keep fuel clean and fresh, use Stabil Marine and Ringfree all the time, install a fuel/water seperator(Walmart $25), 2 screws, very easy installation, the best preventive maintenance item so far. Good Luck!

water pump is junk,toast KAPUT.
run it and ill warrenty you will post about blown head gaskets and scuffed pistons.
ignore the 100\1 oil ratio and use 50\1.
I would replace the t stat as well.
that motor does NOT tolerate overheats.
on the prop your going to have to use a tachometer to find the max RPM on your hull.
other than overheats thats about a bullit proof 9.9 you will find.
but trust me the pump may work in a tank but it wont work on the lake at 5000 RPM and when the rubber(cause its hard and dry rotted) lets go the overheat is instaant and severe.
that engine has no overheat warnings or protections and its possible to run it till the pistons are so hot the expand and seize up on the cyl walls.
some folks call this an automatic shutoff.
I didnt run it that hot, the automatic shut off came on.
problem is there IS no automatic shutoff.

Call ed the last owner and was happy to find out about the water pump was just replaced by him 5mths ago and the thermostat is fine as i called yamaha themselves and a buddy who fixes them for a living and said there is not enough use to worry about the thermostat but i'm going to buy and change it myself as it is only $30 and takes maybe 15 to 20 minutes to do if that.

not only do I fix them for a living, I have for close to 30 years.
I am one of less than 100 field techs in the US thats passed the Yamaha master technician test.
over the years I have also been certified on Tohatsu,Honda,suzuki,mercury mariner,force,go devil, currently still mercrusier and volvo penta. also did a 6 year stint in the USN in the Navy advanced electronics field as an FC.
trust me,you give me the facts and ill tell you a tale.
ask your mochanic buddy what the YAMAHA reccomended thermostat inspection\replacement schedule is.
post it then.
when you call the Yamaha consumer tech line in Kennesaw GA your not speaking with a tech.
if you did not call the consumer 800 number then you called a dealer not yamaha.
but its your 800 dollar investment,do as you wish.

I already said i'm going to change it out today as i do trust what my buddy said also just cause he is not certified does not mean he doesn't know what he's talking about.I also went to a marina that i have gone to for all my parts for 20yrs here in fl and i asked him with no hours on this motor should i change the thermostat he said it is not like the water pump like a piece of rubber that wears out with use or not.

If it has no use on it how can it be bad but they took it apart for me for free as it takes all of 3minutes and it looks brand new and they ran it for 10 min and the powerhead was cool as a whistle as if the thermostat did not work it would be unbarable to put your hand on the pee hole stream of water.Sorry they did charge me $3 for a new gasket as the other one ripped off.But just for peace of mind i will change it anyway it is only $30 for it.

P.s no one saying your not a smart guy on this stuff as u sound like u are and i thank u for helping me and i belive what u are saying and the people before me took it out of storage used it for a week and ran one full 6 gallon tank at full throttle in the gulf and had 0 problems with it and it ran cool he said as he is the one who changed the water pump 5mths ago.so if the thermostat was bad it would of went then i'm sure but like i said no worries from what i saw it is just 4bolts pop the old thermostat out and the new one in and the gasket and wallah there u go does this sound accurate to u as i have never changed one before.Looks easy to the eye anymore to it i should no about.thanks for any help.I also use royal purple lower unit oil great stuff and synthetic 2stroke oil either amsoil or pensoil.
