Had a no spark issue on my Johnson 115hp 1996 J115SXEDR. It's got optical ignition, I've got the timing set and done the sync. It's actually starting and idling better than ever. When I start to go over 3000 rpm it just boggs down, does not cut out if I pull back on the throttle it runs just fine @2000.

Pulled the port and starboard temp sensor wires,
just left them hanging, still bogs/misses at 3000.

I don't see much of a difference when I pull either of the top two spark plug wires. When I pull either of the bottom two it stumbles at idle.

Is it possible this thing is running on two cylinders?

I've got to do a couple more tests once the weather allows. I'm thinking coil or power pack, leaning towards coil.
Is there's a way to test the regulator rectifier?

I appreciate that feedback and will check it out but does it account for the top two cylinders not making the engine stumble at idle when I pull a plug wire?
Something else I noticed was the engine stuck at 1000rpm a couple of times and the voltage read 14.5 volts which is higher than I've ever seen it.

Replaced the stator, link sync but it still stumbled. I think the slow was kicking in due to corrosion in the deustch connected. Rewired the 6 pin connector, replaced the top coil and it's running better than ever.
