hi everyone, my 1996 125 merc when it is forward and going slow seems to cough and sputter a lot and seems to smoke quite abit but once you pick up speed it smoothes right out , I was thinking of switching over to premix and getting rid of the oil injection, any ideas? thanks .

How long have you owned it?----You are aware that the motor only runs on the top 2 cylinders at low speeds up to about 1800 RPM ?----Any trouble shooting done like a compression test ?

The problem is probably not your oil injection. When was the last time your carbs were serviced. A rough idle and smoky is usually in the fuel system. Usually a leak in the primer system or bad accelerator pumps will cause that.

hello, when I bought the motor last year they had the motor idling way to high and my mechanic idled it way down and adjusted the carbs, the motor runs great it is just when you are coming into the marina at an idle that's when it starts to cough and sputter. I even ran a can of seafoam in the tank . thanks .

Make SURE your mechanic is familiar with the 2+2 system. they are tricky to link and sync and some mechanics can struggle with them because they are an oddball.
