1996 125 offshore edition buy or beware?????

I am thinking about purchasing a CC with this engine on it,(Mercury 1996 125 offshore edition) should I run away or consider it. The owner said that under 1500RPM's its a two stroke then when higher it switches to four. Don't know anything about outboards but I don't hear great things about Mercs in general. Also, went to see an older boat with a newer 2003 90hp Johnson on it. Decisions, Decisions...just trying to get enough feedback to make an educated purchase. thanks all

switches from two cyclinders to four, not stroke. Its a good engine, have a friend with one and he is happy.

I guess we had the same thought about the contents of the original post. I was going to get someone to explain to me just how you do that. Ha!
