The engine has had low speed problems for a while. It started really skipping recently when trying to go wot. I checked the spark, no spark on #2 and when moving the trigger cable, no spark to #4. I figured it was broken wires from the constant movement. According to the merc service manual, the trigger checked bad, low ohms on one check. I replaced the trigger and took the boat out. It ran fine in the beginning and then started to skip at approx 1500 rpm. Checked the spark again, no fire on #2. switched the + wire on the coil with #4 and it moved to #4. Tested the new trigger according to the merc service manual. Manual indicates the readings should be 1100-1400 ohms. Mine checked around 760 on all three checks. Am I correct in assuming this trigger is bad due to the low ohmn readings? What could cause the trigger to go bad that quick? I really would appreciate any help. Dusky

Sounds more like a bad bias circuit, disconnect the blk/wht jumper between packs and retest(only on hose)

Re: 1996 150hp v6 trigger problem

Faztbullet, thanks for the reply. I just finished checking the output on the switchbox before I read your post. I swithched the leads from the trigger to different inputs on the box and nothing changed, #2 still did not fire. When I switched the output from the switchbox to different coil leads, it showed that the output for #2 was dead. A coil that was firing would not fire when I connected it to the output for #2on the switchbox. Do you think that this test shows that I have a bad switchbox or should I go back and do the bias check that you described? Thanks for the help.
