1996 175 Fast Strike - constant alarm horn at high rpm - slow down to 1500-2000 rpm, alarm stops. Oil line bulb is tight, gas line bulb is tight which indicates oil and fuel flow is OK. water output normal. I don't have the manual - what does this mean? Replaced VRO pump last year and it only has a few hours on it. Boat has been been run very little in past year, in the water only a few times. It has been run with water hose every month for 20 - 30 minutes. Stabill fuel conditioner in fuel.

Re: 1996 175 Fast Strike constant alarm

thanks - the motor was running great - RPM's were fine which makes me think I might have had some hydrilla blocking the water intake because I went about 100 yards idling through a big grass bed before I hit the open water and opened it up. I had to put it in reverse a few times to back the grass off the prop so it would go. I was just checking it out before bringing it back home from the lake to the bay where it will get used more. I checked the pee hole and water was coming out at what appeared to be a normal flow, but it could have been less than what is needed. I made 2 runs out to the main body of the lake, first time no issues, 2nd time I got off course while checking out things in the boat and got into the grass bed.

thanks for the info. The motor came off my dad's old bass boat and we put it on my bay boat. It has been a great motor, until the VRO pump went out last year. Fished it several times after that with no issues.

I left the manual up at the lake at the camp, my dad said he thought that was the VRP pump horn, but we thought it had a built in restriction that would shut it down when no oil was the issue. His new Evinrude does that.

I think OP is getting a fuel restricion alarm, not overheat:
constant alarm horn at high rpm - slow down to 1500-2000 rpm, alarm stops
, which is how to tell the difference. As for the solution.... better minds than me should advise. The only time I've had that was because of an improper two way tank valve position issue (didn't switch the tank fully -> restriction and alarm)

thanks - could be fuel, in-line filter will be changed to see what that does. It seems as though a fuel restriction would also cause the motor to not run properly - maybe miss or bog down - that did not happen. taking it out tomorrow to play with it a little to see.
