1996 225 Merc Offshore (Carb Model)

My 225 Offshore starts cold just fine and pulls up to normal operating running RPM.
After running at normal range for 30 minutes or so, when I shut it down to fish a spot for 15-20 minutes, it will restart and idle OK. Engage the shifter and when I accelerate, it stalls. Put into neutral, it restarts immediately and then will accelerate as normal without stalling.
It won't stall until the next time I shut down for another 15-20 minutes and again on the restart it stalls on acceleration. Always starts immediately and then runs fine.
It's going to the shop this week, but I'd like to have some idea of whether its a fuel delivery, electronic or mechanical problem before I take it in.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
