I have a 1996 7.4 Bravo 2. This is a carburated motor and the raw water pump drives the fuel pump also. Anyway I rebuilt the complete pump (impeller, seals, bearings and shaft. The pump cools the motor just fine, the problem is that water is getting past the grease seal and mixing with the gear oil that runs the fuel pump. It then pushes past the outer grease seal and sprays water on the drive pulley. It seems as though water has had to have mixed with the gear oil in the pump(presumably, I havent had a chance to look yet). I dont think that the 3 press in seals are to keep water out of the part the drives the fuel pump, but are present to keep the gear oil from leaking out. (more like a grease seal) Does anyone have a good picture of the pump brakedown. Can anyone offer some advice as to how to keep the lakewater from mixing with the gear oil in the resivior. Am I missing an "O" ring seal or something?
I have a CLYMER manual but the picture brakedown of the pump is lousy.
Thanks Steve.
