Shop got my friends 35 hp Evinrude running but now needs thermostat assy. Tag on motor says E35RMLEUR 1996 ( I dont have s/n with me right now) Tag says 1996 but all parts site on the web say it is a 97. Anyway the boat shop says it is not cooling properly and they want to change the thermostat assy. p/n 0436079. Everybody says it is obsolete. Any suggestions. Please help. Thanks.

Try the "top secret file" in the questions catagory column above and there are a few marine salvage yards listed on there for the hard to find parts. I found out about it when I was looking for parts for a '62 Evinrude 40 H.P. electric shift

Correct you can buy the parts separately and rebuild the thermostat assembly except for the case. You can try seaway marine they might have the whole assembly. I would also change out the water pump impeller too. The thermostat might be bad but if the engine isn't pumping enough water it can make it seem like you have a bad thermostat.
