1996 bayliner 2855 Cabin Windows re-sealing

I had a couple small leaks in the windows so I thought I would replace the seal on one window. Man it was a lot of work, I pulled the window off of the side which is glass and the aluminum trim that goes around it. The aluminum trim seemed to have some spongy gasket material in it. I removed all the material and cleaned it all up to a polish. After 6 or so hours of labor and on one window out I put it all back together with 3M 4200, so no gasket. My question is, is 3M 4200 enough, should I have used the gasket? What I did for all the other windows is pulled the trims off from the interior and ran a bead of 4200 around all the windows from the inside, another question will this work to seal the windows?

all you can do it wait and see. water comes from outside, the seal is usually outside. you may just be trapping water.

So trapping water against the fiberglass is ok though right? Its as long as your not trapping it up against some wood and what not right?

not really, if the edge of the glass is not sealed, it can eventually do damage.

Did you have a vinyl marine glaze gasket that wrapped around the edge of the glass and seated into the aluminum frame?

I think I did not. Is it black and kind of spongy? I think thats the gasket I was talking about I cleaned it right out. I used the 4200 instead . I think I messed up . Someone told me that 4200 is not good for windows eaither and should use boat life sealant. I spent so much time on that window, damn...
