1996 Evinrude 112hp upgrade possiblities...

I just bought a 1978 Dusky with a 1996 Evinrude 112hp that runs great but is a little underpowered on the 20ft center console. If I want to upgrade I will want to keep all the current controls, how do I know if it is a plug and play motor? Are there a lot of different connections for Evinrudes?

Actually there are very few different harness connections for mid to large OMC / BRP outboards. Everything from 1973 to 1995 uses the red cannon plug. In 1996 they went to smaller connectors but there are adaptors to in either direction.
