Being a new outboard owner I have a few questions. I recently purchased a 1996 Evinrude Intruder 150 V6. It had a piston slap on the one cylinder so I had that cylinder re-bored, sleeved, and the relevant replacement parts installed.
On starting up, the engine idles and revs like a dream... now for my problems.
The throttle linkages and gearing I can't get right. If its set up for forward, I cant get reverse, if I get reverse right, I cant get forward. Any suggestions?
On the water I settled for forward gear to see how the engine runs. If I throttle up quickly, it cuts out. If I throttle up slowly I can get up to speed. It does however not get up to full speed or revs, only about 3/4 (as though it has a governor on it) It also gets a continuous beeping engine alarm but it still runs at normal running temperatures.
Could the problem be the throttle problem or are there other factors I can look at? I would appreciate any advice or checklist I could go through. Thanks in advance. Brendan
