1996 Evinrude 225hp carburated v-6 fuel mixture

I recently purchased a 1996 evinrude 225hp carb v-6 outboard. the previous owner ran a 25:1 oil/fuel mixture all the time. do i need to continue 25:1 or should i go to the 50:1 oil/fuel mixture? And should i use only OMC oil? I noticed he had alot of spark plugs lying around.<br /><br />thanks for any suggestions.

I'll bet he did!<br /><br />It would be interesting to know the background of the motor. I have seen a some motors that were run like that (various brands) to mask an ongoing problem. If everything is correct there is no reason you cant run 50:1 with good oil. We run 50:1 past 7000 rpm. <br /><br />Good luck!
