I was out on the water when I noticed that the engine wouldn't trim up while under way. I returned to the dock with the engine down. Tried to put boat on trailer but the skeg was dragging . Got it up as far as I could so I could use the release valve. ( motor stuck down). Had to remove the release valve so I could pull up motor and use the stand. Got it home and found out that the down relay was bad. Motor only made noise in one direction. Replaced both relays and now the motor spins in both directions but the motor still wont move up or down. Tried bleeding it. no go. rams will barely move. Did I b low out the valve? Thanks in advanced.

Once you get the motor running both up and down, making sure the reservoir is full is the next thing. If it's low, it can act as you described. You may need to fill it repeatedly and run it up/down a few times after each fill in order to bleed it fully. Just make sure it's full after numerous fills and bleeding. Make sure the manual release valve is seated fully (closed) so that the system will work properly. If you still have trouble, it's time for the service manual or a trip to your local dealer.

You could have a broken coupling underneath the tilt motor.

I removed the hydro unit for further testing. The o ring in the release valve looks ruptured

Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up your motor and you'll find the parts for it.
