How do I know if these are loopers, 90 degree, etc. Also the spark plug books give two different plugs for these engines, and the clymer manual says if oil injected to use a third type. They came with a completely diferent than all the above. Dealer sid to look for a sticker on cowl or engine, no luck. Does any one have sugestions

90 degree. My source calls for QL78YC Champion plugs gapped at .030".You can easily confirm the 90 degree with a framing square placed on top of the engine using the head covers for reference.

ob <br />I checked the manual for the 90 degree and it does say the standard plug is the QL78YC and that is the plug that was in them, it says the alternate is QL77JC4. In the foot notes it says for oil injected models to use the QL77JC4. What is the difference between these two and how do I make the choice.

Whats the top rpm with an average load? What grade fuel do you use?

The QL78YC plug is a protuding nose plug meaning that the electrode is positioned a bit different in the combustion chamber when installed than the QL77JC4 plug.If the JC4 plug is listed as an optional plug then either one can be used.Final selection is based on engine application and examining the plugs after a few hours run time to see which performs best and appears normal.

We just bought this bought last month. We have not had it in the water enough to know the average rpm. The sea trials we made ran at about 5600 to 5800 with four guys and no gear. Again we did not run enough to adjust the trim tabs tilt, etc. Fuel grade probably mid grade. What exactly is the definition of engine application.

By engine application I meant whether the engine was being used for high performance operation(mostly high speed operation) or general boating(mostly varying speed operation)and occasional full throttle.Sometimes one or the other will benefit from a different recommended/optional plug.

These are on a 25' grady white trophy pro. mostly fishing, trolling and cruising. Full Throttle running just to get to the fishing spots.
