I have searched old forums but have not gotten what I am looking for.
The motor will start and run even after it stalls.
No over heating problems. Even temps on both sides of engine(2 gauges)
Fresh gas from land based stations and using the additive.
New filters.
Tuned up.
VRO was disconnected years ago.
All gauges work fine. No jumpy RPMs
Batteries charging at full capacity.
Pulled the bottom carb bowl and checked for debris or signs of trouble. None
Top end it runs like a champ but will have a brief very slight hesitation cold or hot, you would almost miss it if you were not looking for it. Only on a rare occasion will it bog for 2 seconds then get right back to running strong.
If you let it idle it will start to sputter, cough and stall.
This problem gets worse as day goes on. Makes cruising the canal and docking a nail biter.
Bring the RPMS to 1000 and it will idle all day.
Under the cover on the starboard side of the engine just below the flywheel is a black plastic adjuster(resembles a cigar holder with a Locking nut) that looks as if it advances or retards the timing? The owner claimed he "fiddled" with it. But problem was there before he did.
Before I send this off to the Mechanic is there any other trouble shooting I should do?
