1996 Force 50 hp clicking noise

More questions from a newbie... Is it normal to have a clicking sound when you go from forward to reverse. I just put new cables on and am pretty sure the adjustment is right.

Also, should it be kept at low speed to reverse engine or can you do it at any time. In other words, is there a proper way to put it in reverse.
