The speedometer does not work on a Bayliner Capri 1704 with a Force 75hp. Where does the speedometer get its reading?

1st check, there is a small hole in the front of the lower unit check and see if it is clogged that is the most common problem. If that doesn't work go to the back of the speedometer pull the hose off and take a air blower to it, see if you get a reading. If all that works check the air line from the gauge to the motor to make sure no leaks.

On the back of your boat there should be a plastic sensor that it will be on the very low end of the transom. The little rod pivots down so it can get a reading. They can<br />break easy. There is a small flexible hose attached to it that runs to the back of your speedometer. Check to see if there is a kink in it or a rupture. A clog or freezing water in the hose can also mess up the reading on the speedo. Finally your speedo could just not work, it is an easy fix.

Gambler, can I tear up anything cleaning out the hole? What is the preferred method? I suppose it works on water pressure but is there a screen or something to keep out debris? Thanks a bunch, JeffSlade
