hi
I just got back from a fishing trip yesterday and the idle was dropping to 400-600. I adjusted the cam linkage to set the full throttle position and set the idle screw to get 1550 rpm's on a hose.
The issue is even on a warm start the motor starts right up but it starts at 800 rpm then over the course of about 30-40 seconds it slowly creeps up to the 1500 speed.
at the 1500 mark Adjusted the idle air from the 1 turn out and ended up with a +1/8 turn.
and tried again... same result it start really low (480) then works up to 1500-1580 over about 40 seconds.
I don't know what else to try any suggestions would be appreciated.

Idle should be set with a warm engine.
It should be in gear and warm about 750-800 in the water.
Do a compression /spark test.J

The only thing I can think of that will result in creeping idle is a idle fuel air mixture screw could be clogged or worn out. Remove and inspect the needle screw and clean the port with carb cleaner. Visually inspect also the throttle valves for any sign of binding.

Re: 1996 Force 75HP weird idle issue

I think I figured it out... I took the carb apart to check for gunk... all was clean then I noticed the tube bypass was bent up against the main nozzle and the main nozzle had a kink in it????
I for the life of me can't figure out what would cause this... I could see no scratches or marring that might have been caused by improper installation or prying by one of the two prior owners.
Ice would seem to be the likely candidate to do it without scratches but that would be a major amount of water I would think.
Anyway gonna do a rebuild and post back on the results.

Figure I will ask here first... My next issue is the starter. I am not sure if it is a Force thing or not, but It will never continue to crank if the motor does not start... It will kick out after about 3 secs so I have to hit the key 2-3 times for it to start. On one hand I think this is good (won't burn out the starter from excess cranking) but Does this maybe indicate the starter is getting week and ready to die? it seems plenty strong enough it is a very fast crank... Just thought I would ask.
