hey guys Im here once again with the silly questions. I have not been able to find much if ANY information on this boat. I got a couple more questions if some of you experts wouldnt mind answering. First an most importantly, is there any wood on this boat that I need to worry about rotting? I probably could wait the 2 more months til I get home and see for myself, but what fun is that? What were the major issues with these boats? Can anyone tell me what a rough estimate would be if I wanted to get all th upholstry redone? How many HP am I pushing? Merc 5.7 with alpha one outdrive. How do I tell if the outdrive is a Gen II or not?

Sorry for all the questions guys Im just like a kid waiting until christmas. I know what mommy and Daddy bought me I just cant have it for 2 more months. Is there any way/best way to clean mildew off the seats and the fiberglass itself?

The boat has wood in it, as it is a pre-VEC Glaston. Whether you should be concerned about it rotting or not, depends on how it was taken care of. There is a lot that can happen (or not happen) to wood in a boat over 17 years. Can't help you with the other questions.

I have a 1996 Glastron 21.5 40th anniversary edition bowrider and replaced sections of the floor on both sides from the front cockpit to the engine. I used 1/2 inch MD plywood and treated it with spar varnish. It is solid now. The wood covering the gas tank rotted out. 5.7 merc produces 260 hp with early type injection.
I replaced rear upholstered seats with composite chair seats. Front bow cushion tends to rot from water splash. Installed new carpeting. Replaced head gasket. Boat runs strong 45 mph with aluminum prop. Gets up on plane quickly. Great boat for 5-6 guests. Handles and turns well. Glastron made great boats in that era.

You have a Alpha GenII outdrive with a 1.50 ratio.

Rot is the big issue on most boats with a little age on them. How has the boat been stored? uncovered sitting in the elements? coverd and garage kept? There will be a huge differnce.

To check for rot walk on every inch of the floor looking for soft spots. open ski lockers , look in bildge area. tap on the stringers & motor mounts with a small hammer or large screw driver listening for a hollow sound. Do the same with the transom, especialy around the drain hole & bottom of tramsom.

You are probaly in need of a good buff & polish, then wax to shine up the hull.

New upolstry from a shop could vary from $1500 to $3000 depending on what you have.
