1996 Jhonson 150 Cuts-Out at high RPM

My 1996 Jhonson Ocean Runner will run fine from idel to 3/4 throttle,but when I try to go full throttle it has a bad miss.Like someone turning the key off and right back on.I have checked the fuel filters and shaken the emergency stop switch thinking it might be the problem.But I still can't find the ploblem.<br /><br />1996 Jhonson 150 Ocean Runner (Carbureted)<br />Model# J150EXEVE<br />Serial# G 04241362

Sport Fish,<br /> This could be any number of problems....fuel line restriction,faulty kill switch,air in the fuel line,partially blocked fuel tank vent,gunk/debris in the carbs,faulty VRO pump,etc.Check fuel tank vent for blockage or a clogged/corroded screen.Remove/replace if suspect.Check around hose clamps for fuel leakage and tighten.Plastic(ratchet type)clamps only should be used here.<br />Under the cowl of the motor,find the powerpack(top behind flywheel).Find a single wire(black w/yellow stripe tracer)running vertically(into loom).You should see a connector(M/F each end)on that wire.Try dis-connecting that wire,then make your full throttle run.If your motor runs ok,you may have a faulty kill(key) switch on the shifter.<br />Most importantly,get yourself a repair manual for Christmas(if you don't already own one) Post Back....

Sportfish, Also insure that timer plate under flywhell travels all the way to it's rubber stop when throttle is moved to WOT position.

Check the ignition coils, they arc to metal plate that covers power pack. Check pack output to ignition coil. You may find the misfiring cylinder/s with a timing light. If one or two cylinder misfiring and the coils check ok, power pack most likly problem.

Thanks for the great info.My last boats all had I/O's. These new Outboards are a real piece of art. I will try working on it this weekend.
