I'm going to help a friend rebuild his carbs on this motor. I've done a number of carbs but haven't done any plastic body carbs. Anything that I need to be careful of when cleaning the plastic body? Any problem spraying with carb cleaner? What about the jets? Should the throttle body be removed as well?

I haven't been able to find a lot of information in dealing with these types of carbs for some reason.

Thanks your your help and suggestions!

Throttle bodies are an integral part of the complete carb system. To verify that, just look at where the idle mixture needle screws into....

Plastic bodies are ok using spray carb cleaners. I do not soak them in that strong industrial gallon can carb cleaner...never have. I don't know what would happen.
Jets should be removed and cleaned with fine wire.

You will see two brass tubes sticking down from the top into the bowl. The small one is the idle fuel pickup. They taper up at the top.
Those must be spotlessly clean, and flow the same volume. I use welding tip cleaning wires for those tubes.

When re-installing the bowl screws, feel for the location of the original threads by turning screw slowly backwards...you will feel when it drops down into the original thread pattern. This will keep you from shortening the life of the carb by stripping out the plastic threaded holes.

This is a boat that he bought that has been sitting for a number of years. He tried to start it when I first got it but he couldn't keep it running so I'm going through it from top to bottom. Everything appears to be in good shape but it's just been sitting.

I ordered carb kits but the throttle bodies threw me a little. The kits didn't come with the seals that go between the manifold and the carb ports. So I was wondering about pulling those off to clean?

Thanks for your help
