Hi I have a 1996 Johnson 130 Hp Oil injected and the check engine light does not want to go away. Dont even have to start the engine and the light goes on and stays that way. Please explain if possible what I should do to fix this. The engine I bought the boat with was broken so I put a different one on. Same problem. Today I put a Johnson 115 Hp but still the light does not want to go off. Have not had in on the lake yet, but have used earmuffs.

Well, Those V4 motors did not have a sensor for the Check Engine alarm, so you have the alarm wire grounding in your motor or boat harness. The alarm wire will be tan with a color trace, although I am not sure what color the trace is.

Could you please specify which color because i have three tan wires. Also the check engine light flickers off once in a while, for like half a minute.

I cut all my tan wires individually and none of them made a difference. Could it be a different wire?
Original engine was a 1996 115HP Johnson (the broken one) then a 130HP Johnson and then the current 1999 115HP Horsepower. on both the 130 and the 115 HP the light went on. I dont remember seeing it before.

You could have a bad gauge. Back in '96 OMC had probs with gauges doing this for no apparent reason. Been there.
