I have a problem with my motor. It will crank, idle, run fine. Then when I give it full throttle it will barely go. It will rev up with the manual throttle, if I put it in reverse it will rev up. This is an intermittent problem. I can run it for several hours and it is fine. Stop for a few minutes, crank it up and it just won't go. Sounds like it is "bogged down". Let it set for a little while and the problem may go away or it may not. I had the same problem with a 77 Johnson 70hp and it was trash in the high speed jet. Any help would be appreciated, Sorry for length

Check the power pack and coils.

Can this be done by me? If so, what is the procedure? I have an electrical background, just not with boats. Are there any repair manuals available?

If it's the power pack or coils would this not affect the motor in idle and reverse? The problem only happens in foward and is intermittent.
