The motor starts fine on cold mornings with a little choke and runs well. Then later in the day it is very hard to start and seems flooded. It will hit and then die when giving it some throttle. It takes several attempts to keep it running and get underway. Once I get under way it runs fine. Now at home I just pulled the top cover, there is gas and oil residue below. When I pulled the black cover off the carbs I noticed gas and oil in each round opening. Also, the plugs are wet. The red lever is in the down position and does not appear damaged. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Howdy basshog.

Sounds like at least one float needle is sticking or the float level is set too high, running the engine too rich. Engines like that when cold, but don't like it when warm.

I would investigate all carbs for float level and needle condition.

Good luck. :)

Hello there Ancient Mariner.

Ok. I would like to do this myself. Can you give me a brief description of the steps involved? Do I need to get a manual? Thanks. :D

Your problem could be the result of someone servicing your carbs without a manual, Basshog.

Thirty bux is a modest investment for the many times it will save you much more than that.

I would start with a manual.

Good luck. :)
