This boat has an OMC Systems Control gauge on it. The problem is the no oil light will come on, the buzzer will sound for ten seconds and then stop but the light stays on. The VRO is still pumping oil as indicated by the exhaust & the level in the reservoir. I have been told it could be the blocking diode in the harness. Any ideas??? The light on the gauge originally would come on without the engine running. Turn the key to on, the gauge would go through the self test(each light comes on then goes out)then the no oil light back comes on and stays on.

Sounds like the gauge is bad.

Probably adding the model of the motor would help. Youre talking about a Systems Check deal which means its late model. Then you say VRO which means its an early model motor.

It is a 1996 225 Johnson, I belive it is the VRO2 pump.

This sounds similar to a problem I had with the VRO2 on my '89 Johnson 70. It seems there was air in the oil supply line. After purging the problem never recurred.

You are going to need a OEM manual here. The testss that you need to perform are spelled out. Checking the manual, those tests' would take to long to discribe here. One thing I can mention! You can't look at the exhaust smoke, or the level in the oil box, and tell if the engine is oiling properly.
