1996 Johnson 8.0 won't idle

I really need help with this motor. Just bought this one and was told that it works perfectly. The motor does not appear to have much time on it at all, as it looks new. It does appear to have had the carb removed at one time as evident by scarring on the carb nuts. It seems to warm up fine and it runs great past 1/8 - 1/4 throttle but,loads up, smoke alot and dies at idle. I have put a carb kit in, fuel pump kit in, new plugs, run SeaFoam and check the compression ( 110 on both ). I don't know what the float setting should be on this carb, but when I tip the carb up, it is not parallel with the body. It seems to be bent up.......any thoughts on this one would be appreciated!!!
