I have a 1996 90 hp that starts and runs fine for a short while. Then the engine just dies. Thought it was water in the fuel but switched to a separate 6 gal tank and the same thing happened. Took the engine cover off to feel the heads and placed my hand on the flywheel and almost burned my skin off! I'm thinking I might have a bad stator but only after it warms up. How do you test that? What ohms does a good stator put out? And could it be something other than a stator?

Thanks in advance, David.
