1996 Johnson Engine Cover Latch

This latch is just not holding the cover down.
The small matching plastic grates are worn and I'm questioning the design.
Should I replace? or is there a "fix"

You might get more input if you shared which '96 Johnson you have. Oddly enough, there's more than one style latch.
