1996 johnson problems

Have recenty purchased a second hand boat and motor,(1996 v4 ocs loopcharged O/B)<br />my problems are , no tacho indication and no battery charging current.<br />I have looked for a regulator but cannot see the beast,<br />what and where should I look ?<br />Am I on the right track for solving my problem.<br /><br />Ross

Sounds like you need a new rectifier regulator. Not sure where it is but I had the same problem. Good luck

if it is a 120-140 looper, standing in back of the motor- there is a black box on top of the motor with 4 nuts, 1 should have a ground wire.<br />that is the powerpack- underneath that is the rectifier/regulator.

I should have said it was a 90hp motor<br />,I have looked at the web site in the second posting and they do not have a manual for a 1996 motor listed.<br />Is there any where else to look?<br />By the way what willlook like<br />Ross
