Have a 1996 BJ35QLEDC 3 cyl runs fine on cyl 1 and 2 as soon as you connect cyl 3 and run it its rough checked compression and its good around 100 psi on all cyl. If i take and HT lead off cyl 3 it runs fine again bring it close to the plug and there is a good spark jumping across so what gives? cyl 3 has no signs of damage or scoring, the carbs have been dismantled and cleaned and seafoam used to clean engine. Also spark plugs are new and gaped ok

I would verify carb linkage and timing settings first. You may also check for a vacuum leak around the intake on cyl 3.
Good luck

Re: 1996 looper problems

Just noticed something, was running the engine in a tank and was very rough everytime it hit the third cyl as usual. then I disconnected the fuel line to shut the engine off. As the engine was running out of gas about 20 seconds before dying it was running very very smooth. My thought is is the third cyl getting too much fuel then it ran good as it was being starved of fuel? How do I adjust the fuel flow to the carb or is there some way its getting too much I check the float and set the correct height as in the manual

Look in the carb throats. Are all butterflies COMPLETELY closed at idle? When giving throttle, do all open at the same time? When throttle is wide open, are all throttle plates (butterflies) perfectly horizontal? Also cyl 3 float may be stuck, a few light wraps to the bowl with a screwdriver handle may free it up if this is the case.
good luck

I'll double check tomorrow but i think the butterflies are acting as they should. The float is ok and the needle drops down with the float everytime when i checked it the other day. Is there a way of adjusting fuel flow on this carb or could something have malfuctioned to let more fuel in?

Re: 1996 looper problems

probbebly you are getting to much fuel in nr 3 and its flooding cyl nr 3.

check the pulse hose comming from the Vro to the Block.

my guess is that the vro pump is leaking fuel into your cyl nr 3 crankcase.

Re: 1996 looper problems

Since all of the linkages were disconnected to do the carb cleaning, a link&sync is in order. Too much fuel can only come from a hung float or bad inlet needle and seat. Pull the plugs and check them. if #3 is wetter or not as wet as the others you found the problem.

Do a leak down test and listen for air comming out of the adjacent cylinder. Sometimes you can blow a head gasket in a way the compression shows ok, but still have a problem.

Sounds excatly like that is what is going on. Don't ask how I know.
