I have a 1996 Mariner 15 hp and I bought it with no spark on either cylinder for $200. It's very clean, almost like new so I got a great deal on it. All that I have done so far is unhook the run/off switch to make sure that wasnt shorted. Where do I start?

You should have bought it with the spark. That particular spark is NLA at merc... O.K. sorry, couldn't reisist.

Seriously, the starting point is to go get a manual. The Seloc manual should be all you need to start the troubleshooting process. We can't tell you where to start unless you do the basic intial tests that are in the manual.

O.K. but you really should go get a manual.

Your electrical system consists of a stator, trigger, switchbox, two coils, plug wires and plugs. Since neither coil appears to be firing the tests I would start with are the stator, trigger and switchbox.

On the port side of the engine to transom mount you should find your serial number. Please post that and I can look up the parts that are in your engine and get you the test spec's. You will need an ohm meter at a minimum to conduct these tests.

The only other alternative is to start replacing parts begining with the switchbox.

If this is an electric start, did you accidently hook up the battery backwards? That will blow a switch box.

thanks for the help. It is not an electric start. I have been out of town for a little over a week but as soon as i get back i will post the serial number so we can figure this thing out.
