I had posted a few weeks back regarding my motor issues I've started having this summer. I have tried running drygas and fuel injector cleaner though with no luck so far. I'm past all the old gas and only running fresh gas. The motor is a 1996 Fuel Injected 454 on a Crownline with a Bravo One outdrive.
When I start my motor cold, it's very doggy to start. The past two summers I've owned the boat, even on a cold engine, it fires right up. Now you can hear it want to start and I have to use the starter to limp it along until it starts running. I even have to give it a little gas to keep it running, however if I give it too much it'll stall right now. Then once running, it's not running as smoothly as it did before. It's a little poppy compared to what it was before and it just generally struggles a little to run. Another issue I've noticed is that often times when I start the motor (sometimes even when the engine is warmer), it spits out a bunch of black crap out of the exhaust. It's not really oily looking, just black filmy crap. I'm guessing this is unburnt gas but I'm not positive. Then when I start trolling out of the marina, I can really feel the engine not running smooth. At the point where I hit the throttle down to take off, it's usually very doggy and hard to get the boat up on a plane. After a few seconds, it's like the engine seems to spring to life and it starts running good. I'm either not having the problems when I'm running the motor harder, or it's just not noticable. Another things that I've noticed (and this one may be my imagination)but it seems to burning much more gas than it normally does too. I feel like I'm living at the gas pump where normally I could go much longer on a tank of gas.
Any suggestions? Thoughts of where to start next before I pay the high dollar for the mechanic?
As always, a ton of thanks for any help
