1996 merc water pump

im replacing the water pump on my motor,can some one tell me how tight to make the pump cover bolts?,the book says 60 inch LBs is this correct?,when i do that i cannott urn the drive shaft is this normal or do i have it to tight?:%

Hard to say if that is the right torque, is that a 3 horse or a 250 hp motor?

Did you lube the impeller with dish liquid before installing it?
The housing does put pressure on the impeller so it will work, and it will make it harder to turn the shaft, but it shouldn't lock it up completely.

yes i did all that like the book said the shaft did not lock completly i used a piece of tack cloth to turn the shaft to realign after a few turns i did not need the cloth it seemed to loosen a little,thanks for youre reply,ill let you know if it works on the water, ken
