1996 Mercruiser Gen II gimbal ring 86532A01 packaged wrong ?

I think i already know the answer to this.

I ordered this gimbel ring kit. Opened it up, it had instructions telling you how to put the swivel and hinge pin bushings in. Instructions said it was for 865328A01, and for 0D469859 and above.

It looked a little different but everything goes together, until... The trim cylinders rear pin is smaller than the bore in the new ring and it would need a spacer to hold the cyls out. You know , like a BRAVO!

Did Merc make some kind of change for the gen2 ring recently or did they package a Bravo ring in a Gen II box. The box is the correct pn and the box doesnt look like it was ever opened till me.

Looks like my fingers were not working to well on the first post.

I had ordered an 865328A01. The box says 865328A01. The sealed bag with instructions to install the hinge pin bushings and swivel bushing was for 865328A01. The box doesnt look like it has ever been opened or retaped.

I found, after the fact, a small cast in number on the back side of the ring. 822374c. So i am thinking this is an 82237a14. Bravo ring.

865328A01 is the gimbal ring for an Alpha I Gen II, 1998 and newer. Your Serial number is for a 1991 outdrive, but even if you have a 96 transom shield, it's still a different part number than what you have.
Have a look at this it's the same gimbal ring from 91 up through 97.

I believe the 816461A2 supersedes to the 865328A01.

The instructions in the box says it fits 0D469859 and above.

Sorry, I should have posted my serial numbers. Transom shield 0F646482. Drive 0F682522.
