I am troubleshooting my temp gauge, and I found the temp sender location It appears that I have two tan wires Leading to two different senders on the engine.
I’m guessing one is for the gauge, and the other one is for the alarm. Would that be correct?

Also, this is my first sterndrive engine. When I turn the key to the on position I have a constant alarm noise, until I start the engine, and then the alarm goes away. Is that normal? My previous Boat would just give a little beep to confirm the alarm works. I’d much prefer that to the constant alarm

Have a 96 Merc, happen to know anything else about the motor you could say?

The Tan should be the temp sender, and you sure the other is not Tan/Blue?

In most cases yes, the oil pressure switch s closed due to no oil pressure. Once motor starts alarm stops with pressure building

Sorry. Didn’t add the rest of the info. It’s a 5.7 350 mag. Anyhow, yes, one wire is tan/blue. Thanks for clarifying the different wires.

The Tan/Blue is used as a alarm ground for the following switches
Oil pressure, Water overheat and Lube bottle low

With ignition ON the purple wire supplies 12V to one side of the alarm (beeper). When one of the switches closes it applies a ground to the wire which turns on the alarm

If you have a reservoir for the sterndrive lube there will be a low fluid sensor on that as well.
