I have just purchased a 1996 Mercury Outboard, 115hp and I am having problems with the tilt & trim. When I push the up button on the side of the engine or at the throttle/shifter handle the motor goes down? When I push the down button at either place, I hear the pump/motor running, but the engine does not move either way (up or down). The button mounted at bow panel at the trolling motor does not work at all. So now my engine is down and I can't get it up. My engine is mounted on a 1996 Procraft 180-V-C. Can anyone PLEASE tell what my problem is??
Oh well, I kinda disappointed that in over 6 hours nobody posted a reply offering any assistance. However that's OK and probably a good thing. I found the problem! The tilt and trim switch on the bow near the trolling motor that didn't work was my problem. I removed it from the panel, removed wires from the post, cleaned them and plug them back up, turned on master switch and checked the up and down and it worked perfect! Next I checked the t/t up and down on the throttle/shift lever and the switch on the engine and they both worked perfect.. I guess that the switch on the bow was shorted with corrosion and was effecting the entire system circuit. Hope this will help someone else!!!
