1996 Mercury 6HP intermittent water pump stream

Knowing it was the impeller I bought one. It arrived and I pulled the leg off and the water pump cap off. Impeller is perfect...
So now I'm thinking maybe something is stuck somewhere. Is it OK to put compressed air in both directions?
This outboard is used to push my 25'sailboat in fresh water.

The peehole on that is connected directly to the thermostat. So that peehole can cycle.like that it should get steadier as it warms up.

Thanks for the response, unfortunately I can run the motor for an hour and no change. Steady stream for 8 sec and sputters for 4 or 5 sec

How cold is.the water? If the water temp is cold it will cause that thermostat to cycle. Otherwise change the thermostat.

Water temp. is around 65. I'll try the thermostat. Is it difficult to change? Thanks for all your help flyingscott.

Follow the.peehole line to the waterjacket. 2 screws take th ethermostat out.
