Hey guys. This is my first post ever to this site but have read countless posts that have helped me a great deal in correcting problems. What I have is a 1996 Sea Ray Bowrider 18ft 175 Series with the 3.0 Mercruiser LX and Alpha one 2nd Gen.

I just bought the boat about a month ago, since then I've rebuilt the outdrive, (replaced the bell housing, changed every bellows) had the carb rebuilt, put in a new starter, new fuel filter, new distr cap, rotoe and wires, new spark plugs, new controls, newlower shift cable and new trim sensor and limit switch.

When I go to start the motor up, she fires right up. I don't even have to pump the gas. She runs in nuetral perfect, revs up high and purs like a kitten. I put her in gear and we run 30/35 miles an hour for about 5/10 minutes then starts to bog and shuts down. I don't believe it to be fuel related as the carb was just professionally rebuilt. I'm wondering and bought it today to try it, if it could be the water pump in the lower unit. it seems like it starts to bog once it hits a certain temperature cuz if I let it sit for around 25 minutes, it starts right back up no problems and runs great till it heats up again and does the same thing.

I'm going to change the thermostat and lower unit impeller tomorrow and see what happens. Any suggestions????

I also tried to set the timing cuz it was off using the method described in the owners manual and it didn't seam to help. I have the 2 white wires in the plug on the distributer where the cutoff switch wire is also, put a jumper wire on them but the engine still ran like it was'nt jump. I've read that when the whites get jumped that the engine is going to idle rough, but it didn't. Any suggestions on that also would be helpfull. Thanks

Check the fuel tank vent, you could be drawing a vacuum on the tank and starving for gas, 25 min and your tank has gradually got air back in it.

It is the ignition box. it is getting hot then breaking down you can test with a meter check the out put voltage when first started then after it bogs down the out put voltage will be lower
