1996 starts then dies

I have a 1996 mercury 115 been running great day after day took it out today dropped it in and started up fine then die after about 5 minutes or so bought it back home started to check it out be I found a weak spark checking out a few things went to check it again then the motor fired installed all plugs it start then it drops one cylinder at a time then dies wait a minute then it dose the same thing it still has a weak spark also after reading a couple more post on here mine was missing somewere around 2500/3000 rpms I seen some about a low speed coil or a high speed coil any Ideals thanks inadvance

Checked it out somemore found that if I hold it wide open it will fire and then when I back the throttle off it start to die around 3000 rpms I have white with green tracer /green with white tracer / two yellow come out from under the flywheel anyone have the readings that I should have coming from them wires (ohm) readings

I am new to boating, But I am just telling you what I did with my 1996 115 hp (simular symptoms) I could start mine after 10 -0 15 min. intervals and it would idle a short time. My Father in law was helping me, and he pinched 1 of the fuel lines to the enrichment valve. It started right up and idled. This Boat runs on 2 cylinders on startup, and up to 1800 rpms. I could get it started giving throttle but it ran horrible.

Its getting fuel its electrical but thanks for the reply I wanted to know if this problem could have anything to do with my ignition switch

Well did what i have should not of did listemed to someone and replaced the stator NOT THE PROBLEM but on to the next Does anyone have any ideals I see alot of talk on a switch box? trigger? Like I said been running until that one day seems like I great real weak start and if I hold it almost at wot it might fire for a second or two that about it.Anyone have a flow chart or something to check out these parts its nice out and boat broken LOL should of took care of it over the winter.

Forgot to add mine has green with white and white with green strips and two yellows my 2 yellows were burned at the connectors and what I see on line are red and white wiring for testing seen someone was talking about reg/rect

CDIElectronics wrote a very detailed Igniton Troubleshooting Guide, available for FREE download, get it.

It clearly spells out every test for all ignition systems, find yours and follow the simple directions.

You need a plug wrench, spark tester and a DVA meter or a DVA adaptor for any volt/ohm meter.

You can even build a cheap DVA adaptor, search these forums, there are a few threads that clearly show the parts and diagram.

Once you know the tests, and have the meter/adaptor, you can solve this puzzle in just a few minutes.
